Illegal Voting
Susan B. Anthony, and other women voted at least 150 times in 10 states. So, the Supreme Court ruled that women were citizens, but then denied that citizenship automatically conferred the right to vote. It showed that they would risk getting caught to voice their opinion. -
NAWSA Formed
Forming the NAWSA brough together the groups of women wanting the right to vote, making one giant association. This gave women more power to voice their opinion, and showed a threat to various industries. -
Carrie Chapman Catt and New NAWSA Tactics
Catt's new tactics were bringing local, state, and national workers together, gaining power in each part of government. This allowed women to pressure the federal government even more to pass the amendment. -
19th Amendment
Patriotic American women who headed committees, knitted socks for soldiers, and sold liberty bonds claimed their overdue reward for supporting the war effort. This showed the government that women deserve the right to vote, and can help the United States as well.
