First Womens' Right Convention
The first convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. 100 people all together sign the Declaration of Sentiments , which outlines grievances and sets the agenda for the womens' right movement. -
First National Women's Rights Movement
The convention happens at Worcester, Massachusetts. It attracts more than 1,000 people. -
National Women Suffrage Association
Created by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
Organization is created to achieve voting rights for women by means of a Congressional amendment to the Constitution. -
NAWSA
National Women Suffrage Association and the American Women Suffrage Association come together to create the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA).
NAWSA wages state-by-state campaigns to get voting rights for women. -
Colorado Voting Rights
Colorado is the first state to allow the rights for women to vote. Utah, Idaho, Washington and other states follow Colorado's lead shortly after. -
National Association of Colored Women
Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin, Mary Church Terrell, and Anna Julia Cooper were all leaders this association. Brought together more than 100 black women's clubs. -
Congressional Union
Created by Alice Paul and Lucy Burns. It worked toward the passage of a federal amendment to give women the vote. -
First U.S. Birth-Control Clinic
Opened by Margaret Sanger in Brooklyn, N.Y. It was eventually shut down 10 days later, but after she wins support through court, she was able to open another one in New York City in 1923. -
Federal Woman Suffrage Amendment
Written by Susan B. Anthony and was sent to Congress in 1878. It was passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate. It was eventaully was sent out to the states for them to ratify it. -
Women's Bureau of the Department of Labor
Was formed to retrieve information about women in the workforce.
Was also formed to get information about the safeguard good working conditions for women.
