Heisenberg 12983 portrait

Werner Heisenberg German Physicist

  • Birthday/ Date of Death

Born Werner Karl Heisenberg on December 5th, 1901 in Wurzburg Germany to a father named Dr. August Heisenberg and a mother named Annie Wecklein. On February 1st , 1976 at the age of 75 Werner Heisenberg died in Munich,Germany . During his life he was known as one of the key pioneers of quantum mechanics in which he won a Nobel Peace Prize for Physics in 1932.
  • Contribtuions

One notable contribution that Heisenberg contributed to science would be his discovery of the uncertainty principle. The uncertainty principal states that the position and the momentum of an object cannot bot be known exactly and that the combined uncertainty for position and momentum is equal to or greater than h/(4π) where h represents Planck's constant. This is what he is best known for . https://youtu.be/TQKELOE9eY4
  • Contributions

During the 1930s Heisenberg was primarily focused on high energy cosmic rays, in which he proposed a theory based on " explosion showers" . He believed that multiple particles were produced in a single process, which differed from the cascade theory that was favored by American and British scientists.
  • Nobel Peace Prize for Physics

Werner Heisenberg was awarded the Nobel Peace for Physics in his work with quantum mechanics. His theory on quantum mechanics was published in the year of 1925 and resulted in the discovery of allotropic forms of hydrogen. His theory was based only on what could be observed on the radiation emitted by an atom and that mechanical quantities ( position/velocity) should be represented , not by ordinary numbers, but by abstract mathematical structures called : matrices.
