  • Birth

Werner Karl Heisenberg is born in Wurzburg, Germany.
  • Awarded Ph.D.

Heisenberg graduates with his Ph.D. from the University of Munich.
  • On Quantum Mechanics

In September, Max Born publishes “On Quantum Mechanics” along with Pascual Jordan based on Heisenberg’s noncommutative multiplication using matrix algebra.
  • On Quantum Mechanics II

In November, Heisenberg, Born, and Jordan work together to write "On Quantum Mechanics II". It becomes the foundation of quantum mechanics.

  • Quantum-Theoretical Reinterpretation of Kinematic and Mechanical Relations

In July, Heisenberg writes “Quantum-Theoretical Reinterpretation of Kinematic and Mechanical Relations” based on the problem of spectrum intensities of the electron taken as an anharmonic oscillator.

  • Nobel Prize

Heisenberg is awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in quantum physics from 1925.
  • World War II

Heisenberg is drafted to work for the Army Weapons Bureau in Germany to work with the nuclear program at the start of World War II. They were not successful in producing the atomic bomb before Germany’s surrender.
  • Capture

Heisenberg is captured by American troops and imprisoned in England. He is later released in January 1946.
  • Unified Field Theory

Heisenberg proposes his theory of unified fields. It is referred to as his “world formula”.
