    Washington didn't think the young nation was strong enough to engage in a European war, therefore proclaiming themselves neutral in the war. This decision caused Jeffereson to resign from Washington's cabinet.
  • Battle of Fallen Timbers

    The Battle of Fallen Timbers was the final battle of the Northwest Indian War, a struggle between American Indian tribes affiliated with the Western Confederacy, including minor support from the British, against the United States for control of the Northwest Territory.
  • Whiskey Rebellion

    Letter from Alexander Hamilton to Thomas Milford Farmers in Pennsylvania were upset by the taxes placed on whiskey, and rumors of rebellion began, but any uprising that may have occurred was subdued with force.
  • Jay's Treaty

    Jay's Treaty sought to settle outstanding issues between the two countries that had been left unresolved since American independence.
  • Treaty of Greenville

    The Treaty of Greenville ended the Northwest Indian War in the Ohio Country and limited strategic parcels of land to the north and west.
  • Pinckney Treaty

    Pinckney's Treaty, also known as the Treaty of San Lorenzo or the Treaty of Madrid, established intentions of friendship between the United States and Spain.
