    Air Force in Southeast Asia
    Air Force in Southeast Asia is reinforced. Two aircraft carriers from Southeast Asia land on Vietnamese coast. That night, Vietnamese troops attack two islands of the Gulf of Tonkin.
  • Bomb Kills 23

    Bomb Kills 23
    A bomb, placed by Vietcong in a hotel in Qui Nonh, detontates and kills 23 American soldiers.
  • Rolling Thunder

    Rolling Thunder
    Rolling Thunder is an operation authorized by President Johnson. The first bombing raids began two days after the bombing in the hotel. These raids were put in order to hopefully stop North Vietnam from supporting Vietcong guerillas from the South.
  • Cedar Falls

    Cedar Falls
    Operation by American forces. This operation forced Vietcong forces out of the Iron Triangle. Many enemy supplies were retrieved. 72 Americans killed and 720 Vietcong killed.
  • Khe Sanh

    Khe Sanh

    President Nixon takes office. He wants to negotiate "Peace With Honor" with Vietnam which will potentially let the half millions US troop to return but still allowing South Vietnam to survive.

    President Nixon and South Vietnamese President meet and decide that 25,000 troops will be sent home immediately. The photo is off South Vietnamese President, Nguyen Van Thieu and President Nixon in their meeting.

    Lam Son 791
    Operation led by South Vietnamese into Laos, attacking two of the major enemy bases. Little did they know, this was a trap set up my the North. An estimated 9,000 South Vietnamese troops were killed and armored vehicles were destroyed.
  • Operation Linebacker Two

    Operation Linebacker Two
    Bombing plan ordered by the President against North Vietnam. The operation lasted for 12 days. The bombings were aimed towards airfields, and supply depots.
    Facts:
    More than 20,000 bombs were dropped from US forces.
    26 US aircrafts lost.
    US: 93 airmen who were killed, kidnapped or missing.
    North Vietnam: claims between 1,300 and 1,600 killed.
