Rhode Island Colony
Settled by 5 groups of combative people. Roger Williams, who was kciked out of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was one of the lead settlers. -
House of Burgesses
First example of represented Gov in colonies. Many important figures such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry served and helped in the formation of our country. -
Maryland Toleration Act
Ensured freedom of religion for Christian settlers in the colonies. -
Carolina Colony
Conveyed by King Charles II king of England. Wasn't the first time people tried to settle in the Carolinas. French tried in the 1500s. Most of the land became privately owned, plantations worked by slaves. -
New York Colony
Originally settled by Dutch in 1614, the British took it over and made it an official colony in 1664. -

Religious revival in the English american colonies, headed by Jonathan Edwards. Evangelical christian ideas swept through the colonies. -
Albany Plan
Plan to make a unified government for the 13 colonies. Headed and proposed by Benjamin Franklin. -
French and Indian War
Provided British territorial gains. Dispute over Ohio river valley territory. Indians sided with French for potential land if they won. -
Salutary Neglect
British government policy regarding colony trade regulation. Loosely enforced if at all. Put in place to maximize economic output on the colonies. -
