    Sir Frederick Banting a Canadian medical scientist, physician, and the co-discoverer of insulin and its diabetes curing potential, Insulin was immediately effective, not a cure, but a powerful lifesaving therapy for diabetes, He also served in the Canadian army during WW1 between the years of 1916 and 1918, I believe that this deserves a 2+ because this discovery alone saved millions of diabetes patients and is getting the world closer to find a final cure for diabetes.
