Potsdam Conference
The potsdam conference was the meeting of the three world powers, Harry s. Truman, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin to talk about post war issues. The Soviet Union wanted to control all of Europe but America didn't want communism to spread. However, the U.S. wanted democracy to be the main government throughout Europe. -
The Atomic Bomb
The atomic bomb was a new type of weapon that could destroy an entire city. The United States dropped the first one on the city of hiroshima because of the unwillingness of the japanese to surrender. Joseph Stalin disliked this action very much because, Stalin didn't think America would drop the atomic bomb. -

The plan was created to help our european allies rebuild their nations. The United States donated 12 billion dollars to help with the rebuilding of everything. -

This plan provided aid to rebuild the countries in eastern europe. The Soviets created this plan in response to the Marshall plan created by the Americans. -
Berlin Blockade
The Berlin Blockade was an action made by the soviet union closing off all off berlin. Truman did not back down from stalin he stood his ground and showed stalin that the allied powers were there to stay. -
Berlin Airlift
In response to the soviet blockade of land routes into west berlin, the united states begins a massive airlift of food, water, and medicine to the citizens of the besieged city. This showed that the united states were going to stay in berlin and weren't scared of the soviets -
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
NATO was formed because of the growing power of the soviet union needed to be contested. If Russia were to attack any of our allies we would attack right back. -

This was able to happen in a short amount of time because the russians were able to infiltrate the manhattan project. Due to the new found power of the soviets it made a lot of americans nervous for their safety. -

Alger Hiss was a former state department official that was convicted on perjury. Due to the suspicion of his involvement in a soviet spy ring before and during world war two transferring american secrets. -

The Hollywood 10 were a group of people that were asked if they were communist spies. These people did not want to answer any questions due to the bill of rights and what they stood for. -

The northern and southern portions of korean were fighting each other due to their views on government so the United states got involved to try to help the situation. -

Julius Rosenberg was a key soviet spy funneling important secrets to the soviet union. Later his wife was was found out that she knew what he was doing but wasn't sending like he husband. These spies gave the soviet union blueprints to the atomic bomb. -

Joseph McCarthy was a U.S. senator who stated that there was 205 communists working in the state department. Joseph used army security to conduct his interrogations. McCarthy was charged improper influence to win preferential treatment. -
Battle of dien bien phu
This battle was between the french and the communist viet minh's. due to their superior tactics the french were beaten due to their conventional fighting styles. the french then cut off supply lines to the viet minh's. -
Geneva conference
This conference took place in Geneva Switzerland to discuss the issues from the korean and the first indochina wars. The koreans didn't end with any declarations or proportions. -
Warsaw Pact
The warsaw pact was a collective defence treaty that protected poland from the soviet union. The soviet union made this organization because of the north atlantic treaty organization was created by the western powers. -

This was a nation wide revolt lasting from october 23 to november 10. This uprising could have been a threat to the soviet union's red army. This made the soviet union nervous of the following actions from the hungarian people. -
