  • The French and Indian War

    A war between the French, the Indians, and the British over control over North America

    This act took away colonists' rights to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This act put taxes on all sugar products imported to/from the colonies. This act was made by the British parliment to make money off the colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act put taxes on all legal documents as another effort to get British parliament out of debt.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This law required coloninsts to house redcoat (British) soldiers and provide things they need. This was to save Britain money on provisions and living spaces for soldiers, and punished the colonists for their rebellions.
  • Boycotting English Goods

    The colonies stopped buying any British goods because of the taxes that the British put on them.
  • Townshend Acts

    Allowed redcoat soldiers to watch over colonies
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    When gangs of colonists protested against the redcoats enforcing the Townshend Acts, the redcoats fired into a crowd and killed five innocent people.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Gave the East India Company (a British tea company) a liscence to sell duty-free tea. This was an effort to make the colonists want to buy english tea again.
  • Committee of Correspondence

    This was a group of representatives from each colony forming a small representative government.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    3 British tea ships landed in the Boston Harbor and refused to leave from the colonies. A group of angry colonists disguised as indians, split the chests of tea, and dumped them into the Boston Harbor.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    Brish laws restricting the use of Boston harbor, trying crimes in the colonies, having town meetings more than once a year, and denying redcoats shelter in their own homes
  • Second Continental Congress

    In the Second Continental Congress, colony representatives agreed that every militia should be joined into one Continental Army. They unanimously selected George Washington as the commander. They signed the Olive Branch Petition, which pledged loyalty to Britain. This was rejected by the king, who declared war.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    In the Fight for Boston, the Continental Army defends Bunker and Breed's Hill against a British fleet of ships. Colonists fired at the ships repeatedly, and eventually, cannons were broght from Vermont to scare the British away.
  • Women and children help in the war

    Women and children faced increased burdens, their fathers/husbands not being at home. Some even directly fought in the wars.
