  • Proclamation of 1763

    Laws about the land gained in the French/Indian war. "Cannot travel west of Appalachian Mtns." Keeps colonists and NA seperate. But in a contained space, aren't making the desicions, and costly. CL- Complied, not happily

  • Sugar Act

    Taxes on sugar and molasses at a high rate when purchased. Created to discourage smuggling. Colonists had no say and was hard on merchants.

    BR- Became stricter
  • Stamp Act

    Taxes on legal documents, paper, cards, and dice. Same tax paid by British citizens.
    CL- Never had to pay before, didn't have a say, protests
    BR- Fought back
  • Townshend Act

    Taxes on glass, paper, paint, lead, and tea. Lower and replaced the Stamp Act.
    CL- had no say, searched ships, protests, boycotts, petitions
    BR- Fought back
  • Quartering Acts

    Had to provide housing and other things to soliders. Soliders were there to protect the colonists.
    CL- Didn't want soliders, attacked them
    BR- Fought back
  • Boston Massacre

    Insults were shouted and objects were thrown at soldiers. As the crowd grew larger the soldiers panicked and fired. Colonists protested about british treatment.

    BR- Killed colonists, thought the colonists were in the wrong
  • The Tea Act

    After the Townshend Act is repealed this act was put in place to make sure that there was still a tax on tea. It caused a monopoly and caused hard times for merchants.
    CL- Boston Tea Party
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists disguised themselves as Native Americans carrying tea threw 342 chests overboard. It was an organized protest against the Tea Act
    CL- More orgainzed protests
    BR- Closed the harbour
  • Intolerable Acts

    Meant to punish Massachusetts
    Banned town meetings
    Britsish would be tried in britian
    Colonists had to shelter soldiers
    Closed the Harbour
    To keep order in the colonies and took rights away
    Cl- 1st continental congress
    BR- Implemented the acts in other colonies
  • First Continental Congress

    Delegates from all colonies except georgia met to discuss problems with britain and create protest plans. They also agreed to create militias from each colony.
  • Lexington and Concord

    First battles of the war and Paul Revere's famous ride. Started at night when the British invaded and ended with a fight. A turning point for the war.
