  • Launch of Sputnik

    The thing that is important about this date was that Soviet Unoin launched the Sputnik 1 and it was a successful mision. The Sputnik was one of the first space shuttles to orbirt the earth.
  • Launch of the Sputnik 2

    The important thing about Sputnik 2 being launched into space is that this time they sent out a mission with a dog named Lika. Their food sourcewas set for 7 days and Lika's food and water was in jelly form.
  • First American Satilite to Orbit

    The first satellite to orbit, was launched. It carried scientific equiptment that lead to the discovery of Van Allen radiation belt.
  • John F. Kennedy Became President

    When John F. Kennedy became president he challenged congress to send man to go on the moon. Before sending man to moon he asked Vice President to speak to the council to forge a consensus in support of the goal.
  • Oribits

    Vostok 6 carries Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space and orbits the earth in 48 hours.
  • U.S. Ranger

    U.S. Ranger 7 relays first close-range photograghs of the moon.
  • Ranger 9 Transmit

    Ranger 9 transmits high qaulity images of the moon, many of which were shown live in the first television spetacular about the moon.
  • Lunar Oribit 1

    U.S. Lunar Oribiter 1 enters moon oribit and takes the first picture of earth from adistance.
  • Descent Capsule

    Venera 4 sends a descent capsule into the Venusian atmostphere returning data to its compitition.
  • The Moon Landing

    On this date Niel Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. Aldrin said, Our steps in space has been a symbol of this country's way of life as failures and as we share with our nations discovery.
