  • Organization after the Second World War

    Organization after the Second World War
    After the tragedy of the second World War between (1939-1945). Some of the European countries, decided creating an oraganization between different countries of Europe. Due to this the countries had a better coperation, less conflicts and a better economy.
    This idea was presented in may of 1951 by Robert Schuman, a French Minister of Foreign Affrais.
  • The foundation of ECSC

    The foundation of ECSC
    In 1951, some countries like; Belgium, France, West Germany, Luxembourg, Italy and finally the Netherlands. Created the ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community.
    The creation of this community was very successfull. Finally this countries, expanded their projects to got a better economy.
  • Treaties of Rome were founded (EEC)

    Treaties of Rome were founded (EEC)
    In the 1957, the treaties of Rome were signed. Due to this the, European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community ( EAEC) were estabilished.
    They also introduced new measures, such as; set up common economic policies for member countries, they introduced free movements of services, workers, goods and capital between member countries.
  • EEC was founded : "the Inner Six"

    EEC was founded : "the Inner Six"
    They were the six founding member states of the European Communities. They were separated of the outer seven (the seven countries wich formed EFTA) .
  • EEC was enlarged to 9 members

    EEC was enlarged to 9 members
    In 1973, Denmark, Ireland, and the United Kingdom join in the EEC.
  • European Regional Development fund was founded (ERDF)

    European Regional Development  fund was founded (ERDF)
    In 1975, European Regional Development fund, was set up. It provides financial suport for the developement of the economy.
  • EEC was enlarged to 10 members

    EEC was enlarged to 10 members
    In 1981, Greece was added to Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
  • EEC was enlarged to 12 members and single European Act was signed

    In 1986 Portugal and Spain were added to EEC.
  • Maastricht Treaty came into force.

    In 1993 the Maastricht Treaty came into force . The ECC became into the European Union
  • EU was enlarged to 15 members

    In 1995 Austria, Finland and Sweden join the EU.
  • European Central Bank was founded

    European Central Bank was founded
    During this time, the national central banks of the 11 EU member states transferred their monetary policy function to the ECB "European Central Bank "
  • The EURO come into circulation

    The EURO come into circulation
    In 2002 the official European currency, the EURO, started circulating in Europe.
  • Adoption of the Treaty of Nice which came into force in 2003

    In the 1st of February in 2003, the Treaty was signed and entered into force on 1 February 2003.
  • EU was enlarged to 25 members

    Eight countries of central and eastern Europe join in the EU:
    - The Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia
  • EU was enlarged to 27 members

    In 2007 EU was enlarged to 27 members; On 1 January 2007, Bulgaria and Romania became member states of the European Union (EU).
  • Treaty of Lisbon came into force

    Treaty of Lisbon came into force
    Treaty of Lisbon is a national agreement. This was signed by the members of the EU 13 December 2007, and entered into force on 1 January 2009.
  • EU was englarged to 28 members
