The Best of Me in the Future

  • The present

    The present
Here I am thinking and planning for the future, I wonder what is in store for me? I have started working at camps, which lets me meet so many people and develop skills I have. I am also happily involved in instrumental bands and computer programming. My current goal is to go through life and gain new experiences and end up with a career I am happy and supported in. I have planned some careers out, and they all seem like great options, but I am also still learning about how big the world is.
  • Middle Ground

I took a year off before starting university to work and volunteer around the world. I knew I would need to make money for school and I also got to travel, something I knew I wanted. Plus, I got to visit family! That is something very important to me. This experience is also great because it means I have lots of new things to add to my resume, showing my interests and giving me one more advantage when applying for jobs, because I have more work expeience..

    5 YEARS FROM THE PRESENT...
In five years I am about to go into my second year of university at the University of Waterloo, studying computer science. Who knew that the exact program I researched for my IPP and Educational Resources assignment in grade 9 would be the actual program I attend? I am now living in an apartment near campus with friends, and loving the program. There are different options I can choose as a career after school, and I am still undecided. I do know I will have a year of co-op before I graduate!
  • Another transition

Graduation! A time to look at what you have accomplished and move into the future. I am moving back to Toronto and will soon look for a job. Recently, I found my old assignments from Grade 10 Careers and read an interview that I did with my uncle. He talks about when he graduated and finding a job that would grow as he did, and I have decided to as well. My search is made easier because I have my Pathway Plan to look at! I haven't lost my interest in being a Database Administrator... hmm

    10 YEARS FROM THE PRESENT...
I am 3 years into my career! Time flys and I find myself working as a Database Developer in North York Toronto at Crescendo Technology. I like the job, but I know my next step is to climb the ladder to senior developer, and my goal is to work as an administrator. I know I have the right learning skills for the job, like responsibility, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills. I will keep persevering, but there are rumors of the companny having money issues.
  • Challenge Accepted

After working for 5 years, Crescendo Technology sells to a larger corporation and I lose my job. This is challenging for me, especially because I have just gotten married and bought a home. I have bills to pay and need to save. However, I am an experienced Database Developer and a hard worker. As I learned from my resiliency survey, I am strong, possitive, and resilient. I can do this!

    15 YEARS FROM THE PRESENT...
My life has changed for the better! Not only did I recently start my family, I was hired as a Senior Database Developer at Next Step Systems in Toronto. Being positive and persevering paid off, and I am doing well in this job. Thanks to my Career Pathway Plan, I was also able to think things through and choose a career that I knew jobs would always be available in, even if my specialty changes slightly. Thinking my furure through really helped me deal will this challenge.
  • Preparing for a jump

I have been at this new job for about 4 years now, and I am looking to move into my dream job, Database administrator. To become more qualified for this position I decided to become a certified IBM Database Administrator. Some may say this is a little late in life to be learning and going to school still, but I believe life is all about learning, or else, as Dr. Suesse would say, we get stuck in a lurch.

     20 YEARS FROM THE PRESENT...
I'm a Database Administrator! Looking back to grade 9, I almost followed the exact path I planned out, and I'm so glad I did. I'm even glad that I faced challenges because without them and hard work I would not be able to appreciate where I am today. Not only have I grown my strong skills, I have developed new ones too. I am more organized, efficient, and I like working in teams and value group effort. I have achieved my early goals, and I'm ready to help my family achieve theirs in the future.
