Atom

the atomic model theory

  • Bohr's born

    Bohr's born
  • gold experiment

    gold experiment
rutherford changed the mental image of the atom from pudding (consistant all the way through) to something else! he shot some alpha particles through a thin sheet of gold and discovered that the positively charged particles where in the middle and that the negatively charged ones orbited around.
  • Bohr's PhD

Niels Bohr ,age 26, earned his PhD in the university of Copenhagen, Denmark with a dissertation on the electron theory of metals.
  • James Chadwick

    James Chadwick
he graduated from the Honours School of Physics in 1911 and spent the next two years under Professor (later Lord) Rutherford in the Physical Laboratory in Manchester, where he worked on various radioactivity problems
  • Bohr joined Rutherford

  • jumping electrons

Bohr suggested the revolutionary idea that electrons "jump" between energy levels (orbits) in a quantum fashion, that is, without ever existing in an in-between state. Thus when an atom absorbs or gives off energy (as in light or heat), the electron jumps to higher or lower orbits. Bohr published these ideas to mixed reaction
  • Bohr's nobel prize

The Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Niels Bohr "for his services in the investigation of the structure of atoms and of the radiation emanating from them".
