    It was a drama based on the true story of the Tsavo maneaters(man-eating lions). It was written, directed, and produced by Arch Oboler, and is considered the first color, American 3-D feature. It was released November 30th 1952. The film starred Robert Stack, Brabara Britton and Nigel Bruce.

    Yankee's Become First to Win 3 Consecutive World Series
    On October 1-5, the Yankees had the world series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Yankees won the first two games, while the Dodgers won two after that. In the end the Yankees won the last two games and took the world series for the third consecutive time. In the end the total attendance was 300,000 people.

    On February 23rd, 1954 the first mass vaccination of children began in Pittsburg, Pensylvania. The vaccinations were for the virus polio. Polio usually has no symptoms unless the virus gets into the bloodstream. In about 1% of cases, the virus enters the central nervous system. When it does this it can cause muscle weakness and different types of paralysis.

    Rosa Parks Arrested on Bus
    On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks, a 42-year-old African American woman, boarded a Montgomery City bus to go home from work. Back then, African Americans were supposed to sit in the back of the bus and give up their seat for white people. When asked to give up her seat Rosa said no. She was then arrested and accused of violating the ‘‘Jim Crow Laws’’. Her act inspired many civil rights activists.

    Segregation Declared Unconstitutional
    In Montgomery, Alabama there was a boycott of public transportation, inspired by Rosa Parks. The boycott was lead by none other than Martin Luther King Jr. The boycott lasted over a year and ended on November 13th, 1956. The U.S. Supreme Court then ruled that the segregation law was unconstitutional.

    Little Rock Nine Get Army Escort to Attend White School
    Three years before the supreme court had passed laws making segregated schools unconstitutional (desegregation). In September of 1957, the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) registered 9 black girl to Little Rock Central high school. The tensions were very high among the whole school. The group of girls were referred to as The “Little Rock Nine”. The girls had to have escort to school, and worked in different classrooms.

    Alaska Achieves Statehood
    It was on July 7, 1958 when Eisenhower signed the Alaska Statehood Act, allowing Alaska to become the 49th state on January 3rd, 1959. Alaska had been trying to become a state for the last 30 years. Before that it was considered to be a military district.
