  • Sputnik is Launched

    Sputnik is Launched
    Soviet Union launched satellite. This is the the first satellite to be launched into space. This means that the Soviet Union has launched their fist satellite before the United States.
  • Explorer 1 is Launched

    On January 1, 1958, the first American satellite is launched. How this effected America was by giving the Americans their first satellite to gather data. Which aslo means that they can further improve their data.
  • NASA is created

    On October 1, 1958, the United States created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (also known as NASA) This gives the United States the opportunity to further improve their space data.
  • President John F. Kennedy is elected

    On November 8th, 1960, John F. Kennedy was elected as president.
  • Challenge from J.F.K.

    President J.F.K. adresses congress and nation to go to the moon before the end of the decade. How this has effected America is that he has challenged space team to make this happen.
  • Orbiting the Earth

    John Glenn orbits the moon three times. Later on Scott Carpenter repeats the accomplishent in "Aurora 7". To concle with orbiting, Walter Schirra orbits the Earth six times.
  • End Alone Space Travel

    On May15, 1963. L. Gordan Cooper spent 34 hours in space. He is the last American to fly in space alone. This effected America by not letting astronauts go into space by themsleves if something were to go wrong.
  • Luna 9

    On February 3, 1966, the Soviet Union launches Luna 9 which then becomes the first spacecraft to land safely on the moon. This gives Russia the advantage by having the satellite on the moon.
  • Giant Step For Man Kind

    Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin created history. They were the first men to walk on the moon.
  • 600 Feet

    Two astronauts preform the first precision lunar landing which touched down just 600 from the Surveyor 3 probe that had landed two years earlier. Those two people were Pete Conrad and Alan Bean
