Explorer 1
Explorer 1 was the first Amercian satellite put into earth's orbit. It was launched after the Soviet's Sputnik 1 and 2. The satellite remained in orbit until 1970. It was the first satellite that recorded the Van Allen radiation belt. -
Apollo 10
Apollo 10 was manned by Thomas Stafford, John W. Young, and Eugene A. Cernan. It orbited the moon and was practically just a test to see if they could get Apollo 11 to the moon. They did everything Apollo 11 would have to do, except land. Without it, we probably wouldn't have gotten to the moon, or at least not so early. -
Apollo 13
Apollo 13 was intended to land on the moon. However, an oxygen tank exploded and the original mission was aborted. Despite the difficulties, they managed to return to earth, showing human ingenuity. The prime crew was L. Gordon Cooper, Donn F. Eisel, and Edgar Mitchell. -
Apollo 14
Apollo 14 was the 3rd rocket to land on the moon. It landed on Apollo 13's original target area. It was significant because it allowed the astronauts to conduct many experiments and bring back space rocks. They spent about 9 1/2 hours on the moon's surface. Alan Shephard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell were the astronauts on the rocket. -
Apollo 15
Apollo 15 was the fourth ship to land on the moon. The mission had a huge scientific base, with Alfred Worden orbiting the moon and collecting data while David Scott and James Irwin were on the surface conducting experiments. The first Lunar Roving Vehicle was used on this mssion. We learned a lot about the moon's surface and atmosphere during this mission.
