    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta was a forced document, signed by King John, to limit his power and give rights to his people. The document created Parliment and making a higher power than the king.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    A compact between the Pilgrims, saying they would rule themselves. Elections held during town meetings would decide their laws and leaders.
  • The Petition of Right

    The Petition of Right
    This Petiton was made to declare the rights the English King could not make laws on. These included non-Parliamentary taxation, forced billeting of soldiers, imprisonment without cause, and restricted the use of martial law.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    The English bill of rights layed out what the knig could not do and what the Parliment could. This included mulitply elections of Parliment, the freedom of speach in Parliment, the right to petition the king without fear, and the right for Protestants to protect themselves with in the law.

    Suggested by Ben Franklin, it was a proposal for the Thirteen Colonies to become on Government.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was the first direct taxing on Americans, by the British. Americans, already upset about taxes, became furious. A boycott of any British imports was put together. Any tax collecters or people who did not comply with the boycott were humiliated. The Stamp Act was repelled a year later.

    Stamp Act Congress
    The Stamp Act Caongress took place to talk over the taxation by the Bitish on Americans. At first the congress was a total fail, but eventually every colonial legislature, except one, apporoved the Stamp Act Resolves.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Several Bostonians, upset about the taxation taking place in America, dressed up as Native Americans and dumped 342 crates of tea into the Bostian Harboor. Damaging three quarters of a million dollars in morden American curency.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The British was feed up with America after the Boston Tea Party. In retaliation the passed the Coercive Acts. These acts stated the Boston Harboor would closed outside of food and firewood, town meetings were banned, and the authority of the rule governor was increased. On top of that General Gage was made governor of Massachusettes. Then the Quebec Act was passed.

    First Continental Congress
    An illegal congerssional meeting to decide how to retailate aginst the Bristish. During this they resolived the noninportation by creating the Association to ensure compliance in the colonies, came up with a plan to have any issue passed by Parliment would have to be appoved by them.
  • Declaration of Rights and Grievances

    Declaration of Rights and Grievances
    A document written by the Stamp Act congress stating the British taxes to be unconstitutional.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    A meeting to decide the action aginst the British to gain Independence. A Continental Army was decided upon and George Washington to be it's supreme commander. They also decided on printing their own money. In July the group signed the Olive Branch Petition, to King George III. King George refused and declared America in rebellion. In the summer of 1776 a formal declaration of independence was being formed.

    Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration was passed by congress declaring all thirteen states free and independent. The two man points included in it were "all men are created equal" and there are "three unalienable rights" "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".
