Roanoke
A group of English settlers settled on what is now North Carolina. Later in the year John White sailed back to England to get supplies. Then a naval war broke out in England and he wasn't able to get back to the new colony for awhile. When arriving back to the colony he couldn't find anyone all he could find was a tree with Croatoan written on it. He had nothing but a few clues to think something bad could've happened. Jamestown
Three ships with about 144 settlers on each sailed to Jamestown in looks of new life. However there was disease and harsh temperatures causing a lot of people to die. House of Burgesses
It was the first legislative assembly of elected representatives in North America. It was established by the Virginia company in hopes encourage English craftsmanship to settle in North America and to make the colony unite and agree more. Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact
In 1620 the ship set sail to Plymouth. They sailed hoping to find a new life and they wanted to start a church. When reaching land they realized soon after that they were in the wrong place. Massachusetts Bay Colony
Settled by about 1,000 Puritan settlers. They left England because they didn't agree with their church and beliefs. Some had different religious beliefs trying to colonize. Great Migration
English Puritans migrated to New England, the Chesapeake, and the West Indies. The migration happened because they didn't like the religious beliefs of their countries. They traveled to the new world on a rented cargo ship. They landed in New England, which is now Boston, It became the largest colony in New England and hugely successful. Maryland
Many colonist came here to flee from religious persecution in Europe. After arriving they went for war with the Susquehannock Indians. In 1649 they passed the Maryland Toleration Act which guaranteed religious freedom to all Trinitarian Christians within the colony. Connecticut
This colony was founded in 1636 by Puritans. They only accepted other puritans they didn't let other religions in. The weather had mild summers and cold harsh winters. Farmers were able to grow different crops like beans, corn, etc. They were able to make a colony on the land. This colony was one of the first 13 colonies. It was also 1 in 4 of the New England colonies. It was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams and was a English colony until 1776. It was founded by people who wanted religious freedom. Roger Williams paid the Indians for the land because they thought it was the fair thing to do. Maryland Toleration Act
This act was passed so that everyone could have religious freedom. They did it because they had such a diverse colony they wanted everyone to ensure religious freedom. In this law you couldn't talk bad about God or anyone else's religions. They also did this in hopes to grow there culture because they were so accepting of everyone's religious beliefs. Carolina
The first colony that settled in Carolina was by Nathaniel Batts. There wasn't any dominant religion in Carolina like other colonies. they had many agricultural areas which was good because that's how they made a lot of their money. Bacons rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon started this because he felt the governor William Berkeley wasn't helping his side of town. Shortly after starting the rebellion forces from England started coming over to stop the fighting. Bacon didn't want to surrender so he keep fighting. However Bacon and his men were defeated shortly after. This was thought to be the first armed rebellion by American colonist against Britain. Pennsylvania
It was one of the original 13 English colonies of America. Before Europeans arrived many Indians were already living on the land however upon the Europeans arrival they exchanged different things for the land. This happened in hopes to keep colonial allegiance. It also was a unofficial policy from Britain to the Americans. It had different policies that the Britain's expected the Americans to follow. Salem witch trials
This was a time were many people were accused of being witches. If you were convicted of being a witch you had to either admit it or deny it. However if you denied it you would be hung but if you admitted it you would live but you also would have to name other witches. Albany Plan
This was a plan mainly to put the colonies under their own centralized government. It was suggested by Benjamin Franklin. French- Indian War
Began in 1754 and ended in 1763. It began a conflict when the French kept expanding territory into the Ohio River which kept getting closer and closer to British territory. The British didn't like this and then when coming into the conflict of the territory a fight broke out. It was a war that took 7 years The war later ended with the Treat of Paris.
