  • Creation of NATO

    NATO was created by the North Atlantic Treaty, also called the Washington Treaty. NATO is an international organization which is a military alliance of countries from Europe and North America promising for defense cooperation. It also had been formed to assure West Europe against the treat of Soviet Russia and the Cold War of 1945.
  • Loatian Civil War

    It was the war between Communist Pathet Lao and the Royal Laos government. US, Royal Lao , south vietnam are opposed to the North Vietnam,Pathet Lao and Soviet Union in the war. During the war, the United States dropped more than two million tons of ordnance, mainly cluster bombs, over Laos and made 580,000 bombing missions.
  • Formation of SEATO

    an organization formed in Manila which included USA, Thailand , Great Britain, Philippines, New Zealand, France, Australia and Pakistan. It was created to prevent the increasing of communist military invasion in Southeast Asia countries and based in Bangkok. It was failed in 1977 because of conflict and argument which blocked the generally use of SEATO
  • Warsaw Pact

    It is the treaty of 8 communist countries for the mutual defense and military aid, It was signed on 14 May, 1955 in Warsaw, the capital of the Poland. It was signed in response to the NATO's establishment.The treaty was drafted by Khrushchev in 1955. The pact came to an end in March 31,1991
  • Suez Canal Crisis

    the conflict between Egypt and an alliance between France, Great Britain and Israel which were fought for the annexation of Suez Canal, a strategic region for oil trading. It was fought in Egyptian territory when Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal and blocked the Israeli shipping. During the war, an alliance between Great Britain and France helped Israel because they also had economic and trading interests in the Suez Canal.
  • Tibetan Uprising

    In the captital of Tibet which is under the rule of Communist party of China, there was an uprising by the tibetan people. After Dalai Lama's flee, The uprising became intensed. The guerilla warfare was spread since the uprising until 1962. US supported the guerilla with arms and training. USSR supported the Tibet morally and said that it was an acceptable uprising.
  • Nicaraguan Civil War

    It is an uprising against the samoza dictatorship in Nicaragua. Its campaign led by Sandinista National Liberation Front. They could oust the dictatorship violently in 1979. FSLN implements a marxist government.U.S. accuses Nicaragua of supplyingarms to guerrillas in El Salvadorand stops providing them withmilitary and economic aid.
  • Yom Kippur War

    The conflict between Israel and the Arab states of Egypt and Syria; initial attack taking place on the Jewish holiest day of Yom Kippur. After a few days of the initial attack, Israel made a counterattack against Egypt and took back the Golden Heights and Sinai Peninsula. During the war, the USA supported the weapons to Israel while Egypt and Syria were supported by the Soviet Union and many Arab states.

    On November, 1975 Angola got independence from Portugal and soon after, the civil war happened between two former liberation movements, MPLA (People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola) and UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola) which were struggle for the power. The MPLA ruled for the Marxist-communist government and it was supported by the Soviet Union and Cuba while the UNITA was helped by the USA and Whit South Africa
  • Salvadoran Civil War

    El Salvador never had U.S. troops land on its territory, even during the 1932 Communist uprising. US feared that EL Salvador would become a socialist nation like Nicaragua. The Soviet Union and many other communist countries including Cuba aided FMLN which is the formed by five maxist-leninist guerilla organization. US played important role in bringing peace by signing an peace treaty betwwen FMLN and El Salvadoran Government.
  • Iran Hostage Crisis

    4 Nov 1979 / The crisis between Iran and the USA in which the group of 300 to 500 Iranian students who called themselves “Imam's Disciples” seized the American Embassy in Tehran to capture and hold 66 U.S citizens and diplomats or ambassadors as hostages. Shortly after, women and African-Americans were released; however, 52 hostages were still imprisoned for 444days.
  • Soviet war in Afghanistan

    The soviet-Afghan war lasted 9 years from december 1979 to February 1989. The Afghan army was led by the USSR and fight against the ethnic insurgents. Insurgents were supported by United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and other countries. That war resulted in that millions of Afghan fled to the pakistan and Iran. Many innocent Afghan civilians were killled during the participating in the war
  • Iran-Iraq War

    Iran-Iraq war was the border war between Iran-Iraq. It is also known as the fist persian gulf war which lasted from September 22, 1980 to August 20, 1988. US support the Iraq to attack against Iran over the waterway dispute. Another thing is to undermine the Iran revolution which ousted the US control in Iran. The altitude of USSR toward Iran-Iraq war began with strict nutrality and changed to support extensively the Iraq in the final phase.
  • Invasion of Granada

    Its codename is Operation Urgent Fury. After the bloody military coup in Granada, the revolutionary government was overthrown. In return, US occupied the Granda within weeks and set up the constitutional government. The reasons given to American people for this invasion were that a recent coup that happened in Granada.
