1939, Chomsky's First Paper
When Chomsky was ten years old, he wrote a paper for his school. It was about the fall of Barcelona and the rise of fascism in Europe. -
Thirteen year old, roaming New York
Exploring New York when he was thirteen, he found books to read. While reading is fun, that isn't the only thing he did. He met some people, working-class Jewish intellectuals, that confirmed his beliefs. All people are capable of:
○comprehending political / economic issues
○making their own decisions on that basis
○people need / derive satisfaction from acting freely / creatively and from associating with others
○authority that can't meet a strong test of rational justification is illegitimate -

16 and in college, Quite the prodigy
In 1945, when Chomsky was sixteen, he enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania. After two years, he considered leaving the school because he was not finding anything of interest. He then met linguist Zellig S. Harris. Chomsky found their views on certain things were similar. He focused his studies on philosophy and linguistics. He earned his bachelor's, master's, and finally his PhD in linguistics from this college. It was all thanks to a chance meeting that Chomsky stayed and did this. -
I'm a teacher!
In 1955, Chomsky was offered a position at Mass Institute of Technology (MIT). With in a year, he was a full Professor. He held many titles at MIT before his retirement in 2002. But he still held lectures there. -

This is a sad day. This was the day Noam's wife, childhood friend, and fellow linguist died. Carol Doris (Schatz) Chomsky was 78, and died of cancer. -
