Niels Bohr (October 7, 1885- November 18,1962)

  • Bohr Model

    Bohr Model
Bohr developed and published a model of his version of the atomic structure In this model the atom is shown as a small positively charged nucleus that contains protons and neutrons. The nucleus is surrounded by negatively charged electrons that orbit around the nucleus. There are electromagnetic forces that keep the electrons in orbit.

  • Periodic Table

Niels Bohr explained the period table structure through his version of the periodic table. He showed that the chemical properties vary according to the behavior of the valence electrons, He used this to predict the existence and location of many elements like zirconium.
  • Quantum Theory

Bohr introduced the idea that laid the basis for the Quantum theory. He believed that an electron could drop from an orbit with higher energy to an orbit with lower energy that emitted a photon of of energy. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics because of this discovery.
  • Principle of Complementarity

Developed the principle of complementarity. This principle states that on the atomic level, how the atom expresses itself depends on the setup that it is observed in.
  • Liquid Droplet Theory

    Liquid Droplet Theory
Bohr developed the Liquid droplet theory. This theory was used as Bohr attempted to help scientists understand nuclear vision.According to this theory, a drop of liquid provides and accurate representation of the nucleus of an atom. The theory was a key step in the earliest attempts to split uranium in the 1930’s.
