  • First Computer

    The very first computer was called the UNIVAC I. This was one of the first computers to use magnetic tapes to input and output information.
  • First Video Recorder

    First Video Recorder
    The first video recorder was invented by Charles Ginsburg in 1951. This recorder was able to capture live images from television cameras by converting the information into electrical impulses and saving the information onto magnetic tape. The first video recorder sold went for $50,000 in 1956.
  • Bar Code Patented

    Bar Code Patented
    The very first patent for a bar code type product was issued to Bernard Silver and Joseph Woodland on October 7, 1952.
  • Transistor Radio

    Transistor Radio
    The transistor radio, a small portable radio receiver that uses transistor-based circuitry was created in 1954. They went on to become the most popular electronic communication device in history.
  • Fortran

    Fortran, the first high level programming language was invented by John Backus in 1954 and publically released in 1957.

    The first standard audio cassette was invented by the Philips company in 1962. It was given the name "Compact Cassette". Cassettes did not become popular until the 1970s.

    Steve Russell created the first popular computer video game. It took Russell and his team about 200 hours to write the first version of SpaceWar!

    First Handheld Calculator
    The first hand-held type calculator was created by Texas Instruments in 1967. This calculator weighed fourty-five ounces and named Cal-Tech.
  • Floppy Disk

    Floppy Disk
    Alan Shugart invented the first floppy disk in 1967. At this time in history, floppy disks were the most effective means of transferring data between computers.
  • Computer Mouse

    Computer Mouse
    The first computer mouse was created by Douglas Englebart during the 1960's and was then patented in the 1970's. This mouse was first used with the Xerox Alto computer system in 1973. However, it was not very successful so the first well-know mouse was the the mouse found on the Apple Lisa computer.

    The word processor was invented in 1972 and allowed users to compose, edit, format, and print any document.

    The first digital camera was invented by Steve Sasson of the Eastman Kodak Company.

    The very first laptop was invetned in 1981 by Adam Osborne and given the name Osborne 1. This laptop cost approximately $1,795. The first laptop was a huge success!

    The first compact disc was originally developed to store digital audio and video in 1982.

    In 1983, the very first of Microsoft Word was introduced. Without Microsoft Word, i don't know how I would complete a lot of my school assignments.

    Windows 3.0, the third major relase from Microsoft Windows was released on May 22, 1990. This was the first widely successful version of MIcrosoft Windows and quickly became a rival to Apple Macintosh.

    The first smart board was intorduced into the Education world in 1991. This is a fabulous tool in the classroom!

    The first DVD player was available in Japan in 1996 and then introduced in the United States in 1997.

    Apple computers introduced the IPod, there portable music player.

    In February of 2005 three former PayPal employees created You Tube, a video-sharing website where people can upload, view, and share videos.
