  • Meeting of the estates general

    First, and last, time meeting in 170 years. The third estate, representing the majority of the French population, broke away from the first and second estates and declared themselves The National Assembly.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Three hundred or so revolutionaries climbed the Bastille, lowered the drawbridge and then continued to raid and then dismemble the former icon of fear.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man

    Ignorance, neglection, or contemption of the rights of man are the sole cause of public calamities and of the corruption of governments
  • Civil Constitution of the Clergy

    Law passed that stated that the Roman Catholic Church in France was controlled by France.
  • Attempted escape to Austria by the Royal Family

    Almost to Austria, their cart was stopped, they were recognized and therefore arrested for treason.
  • War is Declared by France on Ausrtia

    The legislative Assembly declared war on Austria and the French were not successful at first but got better and more powerful as the war progressed.
  • King Louis XVI executed

    King Louis XVI was condemned to deth by the Natoinal Assmebly and put under the guillotine, saying "I die innocent of all the crimes laid to my charge; I Pardon those who have occasioned my death; and I pray to God that the blood you are going to shed may never be visited on France."
  • Beginning of the Reign of Terror

    Started by the Jacobins, the Reign of Terror saw at least 300,000 suspects were arrested; 17,000 were officially executed, and perhaps 10,000 died in prison or without trial.
  • Maximilien Robespierre executed

    When Robespierre's Terror intensity increassed, his poularity decreased, forcing the population to overthrow, arrest amd finally execute him.
  • Napolean Crowns himself emperor

    2 years after becoming first consul in France, Napoleon created the Napoleonic Code, then, like most people expected,he crowned hiimself emperor.
  • Napolean Crowned King of Italy

    When Napoleon was crowned the King of Italy, he turned the Republic of Italy into the Kingdom of Italy. Napoleon took on the titles he would then use – ‘Emperor of France' and 'King of Italy’.

  • Battle of Waterloo

    Although exciled in 1814, he returned to France in 1815 and regained power, then in a final defeat of the French, Napoleon lost his army and his power.
