Major Causes of the American Revolution

  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This Proclamation was issued in order to settle tension between the Indians and the British colonies. The colonists were outraged because they could not move onto the land that they just fought a war for. This eventually led to further conflicts between the british and it's colonies.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    It taxed goods imported to America to raise revenue for England. Unlike the molasses ac,t taxed goods included imports such as wine, cloth, coffee, and silk. It was passed in order to raise money to pay the war debt off in England.
  • The Stamp Act

    The law required colonists to pay a tax on almosta all printed materials. Such as newspapers books, court documents, contracts, and land deads. This was the first time parliament had imposed a direct tax on its coloies. This was passed to pay off the debt left from the french and Indian War.

    The Quartering Act was an indirect tax for the colonist. Under the law, the colonist had to give quarters, food, and transportation to the British soldiers.

    The Townshend Acts applied duties (taxes) to paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea imported by the colonies. It was passed in order to help pay off the debt left from the French and Inidan war.

    Colonists still outrqaged with unfair taxes made by the parliament, they blamed the standing soldiers. They through muskets, rocks, and snowballs at the soldiers. Eventually the soldiers, in self defense, open fired on the unarmed colonists. Killing four colonists. Propaganda was made about this in the veiw of the innocent colonists. Making the british loook like the bad person in the situation.

    Coercive/ Intolerable Act
    The reason why bteir are two names is because the parliament called it the Coercive acts and the colonists called it the Intolerable acts. It was said to sut off all Ports in Bosto because of the boston tea party. The colonists had to pay the money back for the damage they caused.

    Colonists were outraged with the new tax on tea. So they first boycotted the tea being imported in order to make the companies lose buisness.Then one night, the colonists dressed up as Indians and went to the harbor with tea on ships. They tipped crates full of tea into the ocean.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    British General Thomas Gage sent 800 soldiers to destroy guns and ammunition the colonists had stored in the town of Concord, just outside of Boston. They also planned to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock, two of the key leaders of the patriot movement. At Lexington, Concord, the colonists refused.The colonists then opened fire on the British. And his was a major spark in the American Revolution
