I learned to read when I entered kindergarten in California. I remember wanting to ready any books in order to win a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut, which was the school's incentive for reading.

I loved to read as a 1st,2nd, and 3rd grader. Reading helped me learn more about the american culture. As an elementary student, I remember loving to read books outside of class. As an adolescent, I started to like reading books assigned in class. As an adult, I loved to read, but rarely have time for it. The reading strengths I developed are seeing multiple viewpoints of characters in the story. The challenges I faced with reading were reading books unfamiliar to me, such as Shakespeare.

The book that had the most impact on me in elementary school was Charlotte's Web because it was about friendship. The book that had the most impact on me in middle school was The Call of the Wild because it was about strength and determination. The book that had the most impact on me in high school was The Catcher in the Rye because it was about a boy who wanted to fit in. The book that impacted my adult life was The Alchemist because it was about pursuing one's dreams.

As a young reader, my fifth grade teacher had the biggest impact on me because she allowed me to use my free time in class to read any book independently. As an adolescent reader, my eleventh grade teacher had the biggest impact on me because he helped me see the deeper meaning of a book.

My favorite kind of music as an adolescent was rap, specifically rapper Tupac Shakur. He rapped about the harsh reality of living in low income neighborhoods, which I could relate to.

Pop culture influenced my adolescent literacy because the books I enjoyed were about women and morality. I enjoyed reading books such as The Joy Luck Club and To Kill a Mockingbird.

My race impacted my reading because I learned how to read English after moving from India to California. Being part of the low-income social class, reading was not an achievement in class. Other students would make fun of kids who enjoyed reading, so my reading was hidden. Due to my ethnicity, reading was necessary to become successful. My gender affected my reading choices because I only read books with females. I loved reading books about Gandhi because I wanted to know the impact he made.

The content area, History, has the most engaging books. It started at a young age when I became interested in learning more about people in history. I loved reading historical fiction and biographies because it was about real events and people in history.

Reading historical fictional books as an adolescent helped me learn more about the U.S. , so it was very important for me because I was not born in this country.

Technology has decreased my reading ability because I have less time to read leisurely. Due to the decreased time, it takes me longer to read a book than in the past. Technology created an instant stimulation to information that books did not give, so it became harder for me to put time into reading.

I read a lot of articles online because it is short enough to read on a computer. However, if the article is more than ten pages, I will print it out in order to comprehend the reading.

I prefer reading a book because it helps me comprehend my reading. With technology, I tend to lose my place in reading and get distracted easily.

    13- Literacy AutoBookography Assignment
I would use the literacy autobiography in a different way. I would use it to have students display the books that have impacted them throughout their life. They would write about why the books impacted them. After, they will put it on a timetoast timeline, so technology can be integrated into the lesson. I would want the timelines to be displayed in a discussion board and have students respond to two other classmates of their choice. I would call this assignment, "Literacy AutoBookography".
