    Read report. The news of the incoming UNMIB has in some places resulted in rumours of immediate repatriation of IDPs. In the Lindesberg enclave, where currently 20000 ethnic Midans is gathered, this resulted in panic. Scrimmages broke out in the enclave and UNHCR ́s office was from D-55 to D- 50 occupied by upset IDPs.

    The situation in the enclave is very tense and there is a lot of harassments and hatred among the local civilians. The ability of the humanitarian agencies to deliver aid supplies inside the Republic of Bogaland, has been severely affected by the actions of warlords, paramilitary groups as well as the increasing number of disaffected soldiers who have created armed gangs throughout much of the country.

    Our office is providing emergency relief to Lindesberg for the UNHCR distribution in Lindesberg enclaves. Today at 11 am our truck entered to the allocated deployment site of UNHCR to deliver the goods. The truck was hit by a mine and the truck was blown up. Two of our relief workers are killed and one is seriously wounded. We ask that you coordinate both the medical assistance to the surviving employee and that you direct us which road to take from Örebro for new transports.

    Our field officers based in the refugee settlements in Southland, Westland and Northland all report about spontaneous voluntary repatriation to different areas of Bogaland.     Due to the situation in Westland, a lot of refugees, Midas have started to move home again to West Kasuria. This will jeopardise the situation for the children, because if the lack of infrastructure when they will arrive back home again.

    After extensive fact finding activities by IOM officials in the Lindesberg area we are sadly forced to report that the situation for the IDPs in the enclave has gone from bad to worse. If nothing is done about the problems UNMIB will soon have a catastrophe situation to manage.

    D+5 1500Hrs a Kasurian man, Bo Nilsson, stopped a MP C/S patrolling in the area. He claimed that he wanted show BFOR a Midan Massgrave. The unit followed the man to field in Björskog. The MP C/S saw that the soil recently had been disturbed (approx. area 5 x 15 m).

  • IDP returns from Lindesberg refugee camp to Hallsberg

    After the arrival of BFOR in Bogaland, some villagers from Hallsberg area started to pack their belongings and prepare to leave the camp.
    This group is significantly small with 30 families but we are afraid that other groups in the camp may also leave. They are all IDPs of Median ethnicity. They are not forced to return. It is a voluntary return. They will start a convoy with tractors to protect their movements.

    About 30 families that had fled to Lindesberg from Hallsberg decided to return to their homes west of Hallsberg. They decided to make the trip on there own.

    We have today received terrible reports from Lindesberg of a massacre on civilians. More than 100 are reported killed and several hundred wounded, in the attack on the Midan civilians including the refugee camp. The perpetrators are unknown but appeared to be Kasurians. There are reports that some had signs of a black flag with white circle and others a black flag with a red flash.

We have got reports from local civilians that there has been a massacre in the area, raped women and arsons. Children have seen their mothers being raped in front of their eyes. Children need a safety home, with parents and opportunity to go to school. Childrens need are to be children and nothing else.

    DD1210 mp arrived at VEDEVÅG 8 km south of Lindesberg Event.It would appear that 21 MIDA civilians has been beaten to death by at the moment unknown persons. All 21 show various sign of being beaten by some kind of blunt object.Witnesses reports that an unknown number of female civilian ( unknown heritage) have been brutally raped by the same persons that committed the beatings. The females has been transported to nearby hospitals by local authorities.
