    Assef was harassing Amir and Hassan, and then suddenly Hassan stands up for Amir. "Hassan held the slingshot pointed directly at Assef's face" (42). Hassan is loyal to Amir and is even willing to stand up to Assef who even he is afraid of.

    Hassan was born with a cleft lip which for his birthday Baba paid for Hassan's lip to get fixed. "It's an unusual present, I know," Baba said" (46). This shows how much Baba cares for Hassan.
  • Amir wins the kite race.

    There was a kite race and Amir noticed "All I saw was the blue kite. All I smelled was victory. Salvation. Redemption" (65). Amir was very proud of himself that he had won with his blue kite.
  • Amir betrays Hassan.

    Amir betrays Hassan.
    Hassan did not want to give the kite up to Assef after the race. It resulted in Hassan getting raped by Assef in which Amir chose to not do anything. "I could step into that alley. stand up for Hassan--the way he'd stood up for me all those times in the past--and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end, I ran" (77). This quote shows how little Amir truly cares for Hassan, how loyal he is to him.
  • Ali and Hassan leave.

    Amir could not live with the guilt of knowing what had happened to Hassan. Wanting to send Ali and Hassan away Amir lies and says that Hassan stole his money and watch. When Hassan is asked about this "Hassan's reply was a single word, delivered in a thin, raspy voice: "Yes" (105). Amir understands that this Hassan's final sacrifice for him and it truly shows how loyal Hassan is.

    Baba and Amir move to America, "I remember the two of us walking through Lake Elizabeth Park in Fremont..." (125). They move to America where they start their new lives but they do keep connections with their old lives in Kabul.

  • Baba passes away.

    A year after Amir and Soraya got married Baba passed away. The night he passed away he had decided to not take his medication. "My whole life, I had been "Baba's son." Now he was gone. Baba couldn't show me the way anymore; I'd have to find it on my own"(174). He has passed away and Amir started to mourn.
  • Hassan and Farzana pass away.

    "A few weeks later, the Taliban banned kite fighting. And two years later, in 1998, they massacred the Hazaras in Mazar-i-Sharif" (213). Hassan and Farzana get killed which results in Amir needing to find Sohrab which is Hassan's son.

    Amir finds out that Sohrab won't have to be put into an orphanage. He goes to tell Sohrab the great news instead Amir "Stepped into the bathroom. Suddenly I was on my knees, screaming" (343). Sohrab had almost bled to death.

    The ongoing fighting between the Taliban and Northern Alliance has caused the Taliban to flee southward toward Kandahar as the Northern Alliance enters Kabul.
  • Amirs and Sohrab relationship.

    At the end of the book Amir and Sohrab were flying a kite together. Amir then notices "I look down at Sohrab. One corner of his mouth had curled up just so. A smile. Lopsided" (370). Amir and Sohrab's relationship has greatly improved and this is a start of a new beginning for Sohrab.
