Hassan was "In that small shack that Hassan's mother, Sanuabar, gave birth to him one cold winter day in 1964"(6), but eventually she left her family after giving birth in a week, and that affected her whole family because Hassan had no mother to raise him and Ali was alone and raising a child all by himself and "Mostly because of Ali was immune to the insults of his assailants; he had found his joy, his antidote, the moment Sanuabar had given birth to Hassan"(10) show that Ali was a strong man. -
Communist party forms
The new leaders for the recent secret formed group which is a Communist Party are called Babrak Karmal and Nur Mohammad Taraki. -
Khan's actions and decisions during his ruling
In 1975-1978, Khan wished and wanted for the future to have a constitution that allows women's rights and he starts to take all his enemies out of the picture and government. -
Hassan running a kite for the last time
In the winter of 1975, Amir's loyal friend called Hassan decided to run a kite for Amir but it was his last time because something traumatizing happens to Hassan and will change things forever but Amir wons the kite competition at the end and impresses his father, Also in that event it demonstrates how loyal is Hassan to his best friend that he will make sacrifices at the end because Hassan said "For you a thousand times over!"(67) demonstrating that he would do anything for Amir. -
Afghans flee Afghanistan from the war
1.5 Afghans flee to Iran and 2.8 flee to Pakistan because of the war. Also, the Soviet Union troops hold urban areas while Afghan guerrillas gain control of rural areas. -
Baba and Amir starting new life in the US
Amir and Baba decide to go to San Francisco and arrive there because they were trying to escape the war and not get killed. This was significant because Baba was had trouble adjusting to American life while Amir thought American life was easier than his home country. But Baba is having a hard time adjusting, for example Amir says "My father is still adjusting to life in America"(128) showing that Amir is starting to gain power because he is adjusting to American life more easier than Baba. -
Saudi goes on a trip to aid anti-soviet fighters
Saudi Islamist Osama bin Laden goes to Afghanistan to aid anti-soviet fighters after the soviet army invasion, while the US investigates a human violation report in Afghanistan. -
Amir graduates High School
In the summer of 1983, Amir graduates High school which meant that he is now an adult and it was the first in a long time that Baba was proud of Amir, which was demonstrated when Baba says "I am moftakhir, Amir"(131) which showed that finally Amir and Baba had a good and healthy relationship. -
Amir gets married
When Amir tells Baba that he wants to marry Soraya, Baba decides to go to General Taheri to ask him if his son can take his daughter's hand and the General accepted which meant that Soraya and Amir got married and that was his last accomplishment as a father toward Amir.Soraya said "I actually said that to him, that I wished he were dead." (138) -
The Mujahadeen are receiving arms
Britain and the United States are giving arms to The mujahadeen and China via Pakistan. -
Baba dies
One night Baba tells Soraya that he doesn't need his medication but later that night he died. Which impacted the most Amir because that was the last family member that impacted him and now he is looking for his purpose and said "My whole life, I had been 'Baba's son. Now he was gone. Baba couldn't show me the way anymore; I'd have to find it on my own."(174) demonstrates that he never found use in him and now he is looking for a purpose. -
Sohrab is born
Hassan and Farzana finally have their first child after their first one died during birth and this is significant because it's their mark on the world before they get killed and it affects Amir because he raises the child and he did this because he says "There is a way to be good again, he'd said. A way to end the cycle"(226) which meant that if he saved this child he can atone for his actions. -
Hassan and Farzana get killed
Amir found out through Rahim that Hassan and his wife got accused of trespassing and stealing a house, even though, that was a lie and Hassan was living there with Amir. After that accusation, the Taliban thought that all Hazaras are liars and thieves, they decided to kill him and his wife starting attacking one of the guards and also got shot. In the end, no one stands up to the Taliban because they were scared and this impacted Amir because now Sohrab was "A little boy. An orphan"(226) -
Amir saves Sohrab from the Taliban
When Amir goes to the Taliban to save Sohrab and finds that Assef is one of the leaders and has to get beat up by him to earn Sohrab and when Amir was about to get killed Sohrab saves him and they both escaped and Hassan said "We made it outside, into daylight, my arm around Sohrab's shoulder"(291). This significant because it demonstrates that Amir risks his life to save Sohrab and finally is facing all his sins. -
Finally Sohrab and Amir arrive again in the US
Finally, after almost a year of being away from home, Amir goes home with Sohrab and starts a new life with him while raising him. This significant because after all, he went through and the challenges he had to pass, he finally got Sohrab and atoned with all his sins and by always protecting Sohrab for the rest of his life, including standing up for him from the General saying "You will never again refer to him as 'Hazara boy' in my presence. He has a name and it's Sohrab."(361)
