  • Amir is born

    Amir was born one year before Hassan and his mother died while giving birth to him. Amir said, " It was there, in that little shack, that Hassan was born in the winter of 1964, just one year after my mother died giving birth to me" (6).
  • Hassan is born

    On this cold winter day, in a, " small shack...Hassan's mother, Sanaubar, gave birth to (Hassan)" (6). Hassan lost his mother right after his birth because she had run away.
  • Baba decided to make an orphanage

    Baba decided to make an orphanage all by himself. Amir says, "Baba had drawn blueprints himself despite the fact that he'd had no archetectural experience at all" (13).
  • Amir's friendship with Hassan is crushed

    Amir saw Hassan being offended and did nothing to help. THis guilt was so great that he decided to ignor Hassan. Amir says, " I saw Hassan run a kite for the last time" (55).
  • Amir wins the kite tournament

    Amir and Hassan had won the kite tournament, which was a great honor. Amir screamed, "We won! We won!" after he had defeated the last kite (66).
  • Amir tries to make Hassan throw pomegratates at him

    Amir's guilt was so great that he wanted Hassan to do something bad to him so that he wouldn't feel guilty anymore. Hassan did not do this but instead said, "there" and crushed a pomegratate against himself (93).
  • Amir and Baba decided to leave Afghanistan

    Baba and Amir decided to leave Afghanistan because it was starting to become very dangerous as war began. Amir says as they were about to leave, " my eyes returned to our suitcases. They made me sad for Baba. After everything he'd built, planned, fought for, fretted over, dreamed of, this was the summation of his life: one disappointing son and two suitcases" (124).
  • Baba and Amir arrive in California

    Baba and Amir left Afghanistan for their safety and, "Baba loved the idea of America" (125). America was a new start for Amir but Baba grew to miss Afghanistan more and more.
  • Amir decides to go to Pakistan

    Amir decided to go to Pakistan because the person whom he had been so close to, Rahim Khan, was stick. Amir says, "I have to go to Pakistan." and that Rahim Khan was, "the first grown-up (he) ever thought of as a friend" (191).
  • Amir finds Hassan's son Sohrab

    Sohrab was taken by the Taliban and was made a slave. He first met him when a guard brought him into the same room as Amir. Amir says, 'a boy dressed in a loose, sapphire blue pirhan-tumban followed" (279).
  • Amir meets Assef once again and feels like his sins have lifted

    After long years, Amir finally felt like his sins from his past years had lifted because Assef started to beat him up like what he did to Hassan. Amir says, "I feel at peace" when he was getting beat up by Assef because he believed that god had finally punished him for what he deserved (289).
  • Amir and Sohrab go to America

    Amir brings Sohrab to America because he does not want to leave him all alone again. Amir's wife greets him with love and says, " We've all bee waiting for you" (258).
  • Amir and Sohrad enter a kite tournament

    Amir was finally able to make Sohrab smile and for that he was able to do anything. He said, " It was only a smile, bothing more. It didn't make everything all right. It didn't make anything all right. Only a smile. A tiny thing. A leaf in the woods, shaking in the wake of a startled bird's flight. But I'll take it. With open arms" (371).
  • Sohrab tried to commit suicide

    Sohrab was so depressed and he could not take it anymore and tried to commit suicide. Amir, "pushed the door open. Stepped into the bathroom. Suddenly (he ) was on (his) knees, screaming." (343).
  • Amir tells Sohrab about being his uncle

    Amir tells Sohrab that he is his uncle because he wants to make him feel better. Sohrab was, "really looking at (Amir), for the first time" after he had told him that he was his uncle (322).
  • Amir asks Sohrab to go to America with him

    Amir asks Sohrab whether or not he wanted to go to America with him because he felt really bad about how he lost everyone he loved. He said, "Would you like to come live in America with me and my wife?" (320).
