John Polkinghorne

    Full name: John Charlton Polkinghorne, he is many things an English theoretical physicist, theologian, and Anglican priest. Born on October 16, 1930, in Weston-Super-Mare, he is still living and breathing at the age of 90.

    John has read mathematics at Trinity College and graduating in 1952 as Senior Wrangler, earning his Ph.D. in Physics in 1955. he soon after taught at the University of Edinburgh as a lecturer in 1956. John was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1974.

    In 1979 Polkinghorne concluded that his research came to an end when he began to study theology at Westcott House in Cambridge. Theology is the study of the nature of God and Religious belief.
  • Awards

    John had reseived many awards in 1997 he was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Britsh Empire. He is an Honorary fellow of St Chad's College, Durham, and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Durham in 1998. Then in 2002 was awarded the Templeton Prize for his research at the interface between science and religion.

    Books
    Polkinghorne has written 34 books also translated into 18 other languages than 26 concern science and religion. His books were based on science and the understanding of religious creation. In one of his books, Reason, and Reality: The Relationship Between Science and Theology(2001), Polkinghorneshowed how discoveries such as quantum theory and chairs theory opened the way to a new relationship between science religion.
