    The first iPod featured a stainless-steel backing and a Lucite front. It connected to Macs through FireWire, and it was contolled by a scroll wheel with buttons you can click.

  • Second Generation iPod

    Second Generation iPod
    In the second version of the original iPod, the scroll wheel with clickable buttons was removed and there was now a touchable scroll wheel. Also, the FireWire port on this iPod got a protective door.

    Third Generation iPod
    This iPod was skinnier than the other two. The touchable scroll wheel stayed and there were 4 buttons added above it. The FireWire port was replaced by a special thin connector.

    iPod Mini
    This miniature iPod was the size of a business card. The buttons were placed on the wheel which introduced the Click Wheel to the iPod line.
  • Fourth Generation iPod

    Fourth Generation iPod
    This iPod adapted the iPod Mini's Click Wheel controls and lowered the price of the most expensive iPod to less than $400.
