    J.C.R Licklider develops the idea of a global computer network. This idea is pitched to the U.S. Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency or (ARPA). The term ARPANET is coined and a ARPANET computer network was created in 1969. "In a few years, men will be able to communicate more effectively through a machine than face to face.     Robert Metcalfe, a research member at Xerox, helped create Ethernet. Ethernet is a way of connecting computers via hardware. Machines are wired directly to other machines instead of remotely located computers like the internet.

    Google was created by computer scientists Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Originally named Backrub, the search engine became very popular due to its page raking system called PageRank. They were able to rank websites more efficiently than previous web browsers. After switching the name to Google it became the most popular web browser and is still widely used today with about 90% of the worldwide search engine market share. Later, Google created or acquired Gmail, Google Drive, and Youtube.

    Dial up establishes internet connection over a phone line by dialing a specific number from your Internet Service Provider. Broadband was created to provide faster internet speeds through DSL, cable, fiber-optic and satellite. Fiber-otic is the fastest internet connection so far.

    Instagram was created by a man named Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Originally, the app was named Burbn and was a place where someone could check in where they are located. Later on, Krieger and Systrom switched to focus more on communication through images. The app took only eight weeks to build and had more than a million followers in the first two months. Instagram was later bought by Facebook for $1 billion in 2012. It is currently the fastest growing social media platform.
