  • how music affects motivation when performing on bench press.

Started the methodology for the experiment. I Described what i am going to do and how i was going to do it, including pretests, the six-weeks testings and the results.
Positives - i knew exactly what i was doing and was easy to find information on the internet about my test and question.
Negative - Took ages to actually get started as everyone was talking and was hard to concentrate.
  • Hypothesis

Finished my methodology and including my introduction and did my hypotheisis. found information on the internet which was to do with my question and what scients and other researchers had found with music affecting performance. Was easy to locate the information.
  • Pretests

I did pretests today, using the 6 people in my experiment. these include kieran, laurence, calvin, russell, connnor and alex but used callum as well as bench press is more sport specific to his needs in rugby and will his results to compare against others. I had no muisic.
Negatives - no music so no beat to gain motivation from.
Positives - was eay and quick to carry out. everyone arrived on time so was no delay in starting the test.
  • Interview

Had an interview with kevin to discuss my methologoy. He suggest i went and did more research about what the internet and scientists say about my tests.
postives - did have to add much to my methology and understood what i had to go do to improve it.
Negatives - i had to go away and research some more to add to my methology.
  • Week one of testing - Rock music

Everyone turned up on time and was easy to carry out the test. I used my personal rock genre c.d of Lost Prophets and played it continuosly throught out the testing.
Negative - the day before my clients had all been working and so their muscles were aching from the day before which could affect the end results.
Positives - I had a few clients which preferred the genre of rock and so hopefully this will increase their motivation which will show in the end results.
  • Week 2 of testing - pop

Everyone turned up on time and was easy to carry out the test. I played a pop c.d and played it continuosly throught out the testing.
Negative - Not everyone wanted to carry out my test and so didnt put a lot of effort into the test which will affect the end results.
Positives - Some of the clients preferred the genre of pop so hopefully this will increase their motivation which will show in the end results.
  • Week 3 of testing - rap

Most people turned up and those who did on time, but russell was away at sports compettion and joe had an injury so they didnt take part.
Negative - Not everyone did the test.
Positives - most people liked rap as they said it was the lyrics which helped them gain motivation instead of the music itself.
  • Week 4 of testing - jazz music

Everyone turned up on time so the test was carried out smoothly. I used my personal jazz genre c.d of Cafe de Mar and played it continuosly throught out the testing.
Negative - No one liked the music so didnt listen to it. Music is calm and doesnt have a beat to get motivation from so this should show in the results. Everyone has been doing a specific training programme so their muscle were able to adapt and increase the weight lifted. Positives - No communication between the clients in test.
  • Conclusion and write up

Started my write up of results and conclusion. put all my results in a table and explained what they meant. Did client profiles. found this process easy, has no distractions and was relatively quick.
  • Write up and conclusion

Finished my write up and insterted graphs to show how the clients varried with the different types of music over the weeks.
  • Conclusion

Finished conclusion. Overall i found the whole testing process alright, some parts i found hard like making sure everyone came to the test every week but other parts i found failry easy like the write up as i knew wht i had to say.
