  • The first two decades of the 20th century

    The first two decades of the 20th century
    It was an era with rapid economic growth and industrialzation. A lot of immigrants came to USA in this time period, because the wages were a lot higher. In the end of 1910s, USA got involved in WW1 even though they did not want it.
  • The 1920s

    The 1920s
    This decade is also called "The roaring twenties". It was a period with an economic boom and industrial growth. Although, the happiness came to a sudden stop with the Stock market crash on Wall Street in 1929.
  • The 1930s

    The 1930s
    This decade is called "The great depression" and was a decade of poverty, unemployment and struggles. This "bad" decade were a consequence of the Stock market crash on Wall Street in 1929. In 1939, WW2 out in Europe, and then the depression disappeared after a while.
  • The 1940s

    The 1940s
    In the first half of this decade, WW2 ravaged in Europe. USA decided not to get involved, but when Pearl Harbour got attacked by the japanese in 1941, the USA entered the war on the Allies side.
    After the war, the whole mainland of USA were intact so USA helped Europe a lot.
  • The 1950s

    The 1950s
    It was a good period in the USA with growth in all areas; economic, political, military and in the population.
    Cars became more and more common and goods from America were popular all over the world. The country became also one of the two superpowers in the world together with the Sovjet Union. The cultural in the world were also influenced by the USA.
  • The 1960s

    The 1960s
    This decade was filled with everything from wars to changes. For example the civil rights movement, the space race, the Kennedys and the Vietnam war were things that happened in the 1960s.
    In the end of this decade, Neil Armstrong was the first to set foot on the moon.

    The 1970s
    The things and movements that happened in the 1960s continued in this decade. The womens rights became a very popular topic as well. A lot of the factories were also shot down and the previous "Steel Belt", became "the Rust Belt". In this decade and after the Vietnam war, many asian immigrants came to USA.
  • The 1980s

    The 1980s
    During this decade, Ronald Reagan was the president of the USA, which was now a conservative country.
    The cold war also influenced the decade, but ended in 1989 after the Berlin Wall came down. Pop became more polular thorugh this decade with icons like Madonna and Michael Jackson.
  • The 1990s

    The 1990s
    Gradually troughout this decade, The US became more economically stable. The immigration from Latin America also increased a lot. Technologically, big inventions like the PC and the internet were made.
  • The 21st century

    The 21st century
    In the beginning of this century, in 2001, the huge terror event called 9/11 happened. Over 3000 civilian people died. The worldwide economic recession hit the US hard as well, and many people struggles financially with losing their jobs and having to leave their houses. After Barack Obama was elected to be a president in 2008, a lot of hope were brought to the inhabitants.
