    Henry the 8. was proclaimed king of Ireland in 1541. He and his daugther Elisabeth I wanted to colonise Ireland

    battle of the boyne is a battle for the throne of England. the battle was fought in ireland between king james 2.(Catholic army) and his son in law william of orange(Protestant army)
    william orange won and ever since the protestants in the Nothern Ireland has been celebrating by marching parading orange flag.

    The Irish soldiers participated on hte British side, but at the same time there was increasing unrest culminating in the Easter rebellion in 1916

    The government were divided into two separate political entities, but at the same time with the power of self government. The government were accepted by both the Protestants and the Catholics who still demanded total indenpence for a unified Ireland.

    In 1949 the Irish free state became an indenpendent republic.
