  • The "ThumbDrive"

    The "ThumbDrive"
Ever since its introduction in the year 2000 by the Singapore company, Trek Technology, the usb flash drive has been a primary source of backing up and transferring data files. Along with the greater capacity of storage and its faster capabilities, the thumbdrive also eliminated the problems of scratching and magnetic erasure. We can see the lasting effects of the usb drive with the change of favor in computers transitioning from disk ports to usb.

  • World's Fastest SuperComputer

    World's Fastest SuperComputer
The Earth Simulator was developed to create global climate models. It was the world's fastest supercomputer in the world from 2002-2004. It allowed for us as society to be able to understand and evaluate effects and problems of global warming. After the Japanese government spent 60 billion yen on the most efficient computer in the world at this point, they could run simulations of global climate in the atmosphere and oceans. https://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/2002/
  • The Apple iPhone

    The Apple iPhone
Although not a traditional computer, the apple iPhone had more functionality and speed than some actual computers. While not the first touch screen phone with integrated web capability, it blew competition out of the water. They allowed for more applications to be run on the phone creating a different experience for each user. Combining with the easy interface of other apple products, the iPhone created a very user friendly experience as well.

  • MacBook Air Release

    MacBook Air Release
At this point, Apple had already established themselves as an innovative and revolutionizing company, especially with their introduction of the iphone the year before. While incorporating all the capabilities of their other laptops, in 2008 they managed to create the thinnest computer of the time. It pioneered the engineering of following laptops with the switch from traditional hard drives to a solid state disk in order to reduce the size. https://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/2008/
  • Cloud-Based Storage

    Cloud-Based Storage
Cloud based storage is gaining popularity for its convenience for the average tech user. Publicized in 2009, it allowed for another (more of a secondary option) way to back up files, sparking the beginning of a better data recovery solution. Although the original invention compares nothing to the luxuries of today, we can appreciate the path it paved for the more advanced and secure cloud storage that we've come to love...and finally understand.
