1966 World Cup
England beat Germany 4-2 to secure thier first, and only, World Cup triumph -
1970 World Cup
Germany go onto to finish in third place after knocking England out in the quarter finals. -
1974 World Cup
Germany win the World Cup in their home nation after defeating the Netherlands in the final. England failed to qualify for the tournament. -
1978 World Cup
Germany are unable to retain the trophy and bow out at the quarter final stage. For the second time in a row England failedto make it to the world cup finals. -
1982 World Cup
Germany finish runners up this time round but England are unable to make it out of the second group stage -
1986 World Cup
Once again Germany finish in second place whereas England cant make it past the quarter final stage -
1990 World Cup
Germany go one better than the previous two tournaments and win the World Cup. The semi-final saw England lose to Germany on penalties. It remains the furthest an English side have reached since the triumph in 66' -
1994 World Cup
The tournament saw Germany reach the quarter finals where they were then eliminated. England were unable to make it to qualify for the tournament -
1998 World Cup
England were only able to reach the last 16 but Germany was able to go one better and make it to the quarter finals, where they were eventually eliminated -
2002 Wordl Cup
England once again failed to make it past the quarter finals, but Germany namaged to make it to the final where they were defeated by Brazil -
2006 World Cup
Host country Germany made it to the semi finals where they was beaten by eventual winners Italy. England could not make it out of the last 16 after a defeat by Portugal. -
2010 World Cup
England and Germany met in the last 16 where the Germans ran out comprehensive winners in a 4-1 victory. They went on to the semi finals where they was defeated by Spain.
