First game: Pong invented
The first video game referred to as Pong was created by a physicist named William Higinbotham. The game wasn't actually pong but it was just like the 1970's game. It was apparently a hit at the National Laboratory Open House which the game itself was kind of like tennis. -

Gaming History
The time from when games began, to the point where they became something more. The shift of gaming turned into a sport more than hobby for some. Creating entire teams dedicated to playing video games to compete in prize pools and earn fame. This phenomenon also transformed live games into a spectator event. Often appearing on Twitch a streaming platform or other websites. -
First Console
The very first popular console was the Atari 2600 which was released in 1977. The very first console I remember was the Nintendo 64 followed by PS1 and XBOX. Which I will get to later. -
First 2D Platformer: Space Panic
This was the first time a platformer type game was created, the event happened in 1980. This was iconic for the gaming industry creating a roadway for amazing future masterpieces. -
Donkey Kong
This game was one of the most beloved and hated games of its time due to its difficulty. Even in the year 2020 we still have feelings and adaptations made to this 1981 game. This makes it around 39 years old. This was also a platformer made after space panic. -
Nintendo NES/Famicom
This was one of the most favorite videogame consoles ever released. First in japan in 1983 but in America in 1985. Europe obtained it a little later which was 1986. -
First Beloved 3D Game: 3D Battles of World Runner
It seems there were a few other three dimensional games in the past but many of them were funky. This game caught many peoples eye which was enjoyed very heavily. This marked another victory for the gaming industry becoming more advanced. -
Street Fighter 2: Direct Competition Begins
Street fighter 2 was released as a sequel to the first street fighter. The second installation helped popularize sportsmanship with help from marvel vs capcom to form something extremely important in 1996. This important event later on was called EVO. -
Playstation: 100 million sold
The most memorable console for me as a person was the playstation. My brother, cousins, friends, and I would all play so many games on this one. I still want to go back to it and play some of the old final fantasys, crash bash, and driver. This was one of the most popular consoles ever sold. -
EVO: Evolution Championship Series
This was the beginning of a new era in gaming and this was also an end to the old world. Made in 1996 it primarily is a convention for fighting games competition. This includes street fighter and marvel vs capcom. True battles were fought and people tried their best to get first in tournament rounds. -
League of Legends Began
This is a MOBA type of video game that became extremely well known among millions of players. It topped out at 16 million active users and there were a lot of people in my classes that would play. I actually began some friendships because of league of legends which is funny. Its always been one of my favorite games. Sadly, I have grown slightly away from it over time but its always there for me to return. -
Esports Growth
During this timeline league of legends and many other competitive games such as other MOBA's, First Person Shooters, and strategy games were the rage. There were a lot of teams made to transfer players and battle it out for prize money during this time. Groups including Team Liquid, Fnatic, G7 teams, Cloud9, and SK-Gaming. -
$100,000 Esports Prize
The very first major tournament was actually held by League of Legends in July. The spectators hit millions of people worldwide and this was a major part of why it became popular. People felt as if there could be real money in gaming rather than it just being a joke for parents to laugh at. The event was held at Dreamhack, in Sweden. -
Prize Pool: Millions
The prize pool after leagues $100,000 tournament continued to grow with DOTA 2 and Counterstrike. Dota becoming $1.6 million prize and CounterStrike reaching $250,000 prize. -
Fortnite: $100 MILLION DOLLARS
Fortnite is mentioned as a children's game but many parents weren't able to understand that it could become something more important. There are now colleges growing in the Esports division allowing people to chase their dreams of playing video games for money. This is beautiful allowing people to have more options than the simple 9am to 5pm jobs people are used to.
