Enlisted in the Union
Frances Joined the Union as "Jack Williams" in the Fall of 1861. -
Was in the battle of Fort Donelson.
Frances or "Jack" was known to have fought in the battle of Donelson. This battle was lead by Brig. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant who after capturing Fort Henrey aimed for Fort Donelson. -

Frances in the Battle of Fort Donelson was wounded but did not get any medicla help due to her desguise. Even though she was wounded she still played the Role of a man "jack" by Smoking, Drinking, chewing Tabacco, swearing, and Gambling. -

Frances was involved and fought in the siege of Corinth that began May 27-30. -
BATTLE OF FAIR OAKS
Frances Clayton was also involved in the battle of Fair Oaks. this was an attempt by forces under Confederate to repulse the Union Army from the outskirts of Richmond during the American Civil War. -
BATTLE OF SAVAGE STATION
This was another battle Frances was inlvoved which was The First defended the Union left flank, almost as an independent unit, and didn’t leave the field until 10:00 p.m. -
BATTLE OF WHITE OAK SWAMP
Frances clayton was in the regiment when they crossed White Oak Swamp in early morning leaving the wounded behind, and marched to Brackett’s Ford, then to Glendale, where they fought until midnight. At Malvern Hill, the next day, the First was present but did not fight. -
BATTLE OF ANTIETAM
The regiment, only 435 men strong including Frances who was involved were the only dtrong men to fight. 15 killed, 79 wounded, and 21 missing. Clayton was safe. -
Battle of Perryville October 8
Frances was in the fight or Battle of Perryville. This battle was fought in Kentucky Chaplin Hill which was a win for the Union. -
Frances inolved in the Battle of Murfreesboro
In this battle Frances "jacks" husband died in this battle but was first wounded in the hip. -
Served in the civil War.
Frances served in the war side by side with her Husband who died in war and after he died she kept fighting. -
Frances decided to finally showed her real identity

BATTLE OF CHANCELLORSVILLE
On the 3rd, Clayton ans her companions crossed the Rappahannock River into Fredericksburg, where they were shelled, and then returned to the north bank. -
BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG
Francis Clayton was also involved in the battle of Gettysburg which took place in Pennsylvania. This was one of the biggest Civil War battles and the largest battle in North America involving around 85,000 men in the Union’s Army. -

The Advance of the Rebel Army
On September 26, 1864, the 13th Missouri Cavalry which was where Frances was was ordered to field to check the advance of the Rebel Army invading Missouri under the command of General Price.
