  • The dispute over Alsace Lorraine

    The german army attacked France. The germans won this short war, they took the regions of Alsace Lorraine from France.
    France became suspicious of the Germans.
  • The Russo-Turkish war

    Each wanted the control of the area (The Balkans) and they encouraged people in the area to support their claims for power.
  • The Naval race

    Wilhelm II (German emperor) wanted to be an imperial ruler. He set his sights on having an empire to match that of the British. For that he would need to have a large and powerful navy.
    A race started to have the largest navy. This race led to tension between Germany and British.
  • Franz Ferdinand´s death

    The archduke of Austria was killed, the heir to the throne og Austria-Hungary is seen as the inmediate trigger of the war.
  • The opening

    The conflict opened with the German invasion of Belgium, Luxembourg and France, the Austro-Hungarian invasion of Serbia, and a Russian attack against Prussia.
