    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was an agreement put forward by Henry Clay that allowed Missouri to enter the Union as a slave state and Maine to enter the Union as a free state. The Compromise also drew an imaginary line at 36 degrees 30 minutes north latitude, dividing the new Louisiana Territory into two areas, one north and one south.
  • South Carolina secedes the Union

    South Carolina secedes the Union
    After Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States, South Carolina was the first state to leave the Union. They did not agree with what Lincoln stood for as President and wanted to protect their right to slavery.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
    The South has left the Union and formed the Confederate States. Fort Sumter is located in the South and the Union has control of it. The South has asked them to leave the fort but they refuse. First shots are fired by the Confederates.
