    Admitted Missouri as a slave state, and Maine as a free state. This was because states wanted to keep a balance of power in congress. A new law was put in place that if a slave state was added to the union, a free state was required to be put in also.

    California was admitted as a free state. But there was no admission of a slave state, so in turn, a new Fugative slave act was put in place. This made the Northern assist in the return of run-away slaves. This angered northerners, as they had to worry about something that didn't even occur in their part

One of the impacts of this was that Europe stopped trading with (south) America, because they realized that they were buying product from slavery.
