Dr. William Gilbert
Dr. Gilber was not the first to know about electricity, the Greeks were, but he was one of the first physicians who studied and discussed the connection between magnetism and electricity on his book "De Magnete". He was the first to use the word "electricity" from the Greek word for "amber" (the Greeks studied how when amber was rubbed on fur it would attract like weight object; static energy). He was also the first person to use words like electric force, magnetic pole, and electric attraction. -
Benjamin Franklin the Father of Electricity
Benjamin Franklin experiments with lightning and proves for it to be electricity. He proved that static electricity and lightning were the same thing (by putting the key at the end of the kite string. His discovery made it possible for future investigation of electricity. -
Humphry Davy
He was a British chemist and philosopher who invented the "arc lamp". He connected to wires to a battery and a strip of coal on the other end, the charged carbon glowed makng the first arc lamp. Later, Brush modified it to be able to use generators to power it. -
Michael Faraday and the Electric Motor
Michael Faraday created the first electric motor by using a metal wire suspended in a cup of mercury. Later, he kept experimenting and all of his results led to the conclusion and understanding of of electrical transformers and motors. -
Thomas Edison and the incandescent lightbulb
After a series of excperiments, Thomas Edison, comes up with an incandescent lightbulb that lasts up to 40 hours without burning out. As he kept on with his experiments he ended up creating a lightbulb that lasted up to 1200 hours without burning out by 1880 -
