He became an icon painter using the byzantine style but he was also influenced by the Italian Renaissance painters. -

The Italian period
El Greco left Crete and went to Venice where he worked with Tiziano and Tintoretto. Later he moved to Rome. -

Moving to Spain
He moved to Spain. He lived in Madrid at first and then he settld down in Toledo where he created most of his great works -

Birth of his son
His only son was born in Toledo in 1578 and he became a painter too. -
His best work
He created his best work ''The burial of the Count of Orgaz'' in Toledo. -
His death
Dominicos Theotokopoulos died in Toledo in 1614. He is known with the name El Greco (The Greek).
