Obama signs Matthew Shepard Act into law

President Obama signs into law the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, a measure added to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2010. The law expands hate crimes laws to protect individuals against violence based on gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.
