THIS EXAMPLE IS ABOUT MY TWO FAMILIES. ONE TIME WHEN I WAS LITTLE MY TWO DIFFERENT SIDES OF MY FAMILY CAME TO MY HOUSE.WE WERE PICKING WHAT THE THEME OF MY BIRTHDAY PARTY. WE HAD A DISCUSSION AND WHEN WE CAME TO A CONCLUSION NONE OF THE FAMILIES HAD AGREED. I THINK THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE BECAUSE WE DISCUSSED, BUT DID NOT AGREE ON IT.

My family and I went to a letter writing event to write letters to immigrants in detention centers. We went to show them a little bit of love and support because they needed it. While I was there I noticed that a-lot different cultures were there. I thought it was nice how all these different cultures were supporting the immigrants. This happened in April of 2017.

My family and I went to Puerto Rico. I experienced different foods, culture, and music. The people there speak Spanish and they serve different foods like shark. The beaches there are more beautiful than the beaches in New Jersey. There were also different animals, like a little tiny frog called a coqui. All of the music there was beautiful and traditional to these Puerto Ricans. This was important because this shows a different way of life and lifestyle.

    DYLAN'S E.G. OF CONFLICT
An argument between a Haitian lady and my Dominican Aunt that happened while I was vacationing in the Dominican Republic.
  • Drystan- COMMUNITY

    Drystan- COMMUNITY
DRYSTAN COMMUNITY- ONE TIME I HAVE SEEN COMMUNITY WAS AT A PARTY AT THE CORNER OF MY STREET. THIS A GOOD EXAMPLE BECAUSE EVERYONE NEW EACH OTHER AND ALL OF THEM WERE HANGING OUT AND NO ONE WAS IGNORING EACH OTHER. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT SHOWS HOW THE COMMUNITY WILL HELP OUT EACH OTHER AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THE HAVING A GOOD PARTY.

I attended a protest against how immigrants were (in my opinion) unfairly getting treated. I marched
with my West Orange Community, and I was interviewed, along with my sisters by a news channel about how I felt about the situation. I answered by telling them that I thought it was unjust and cruel. This event is important to me because I think what happened is sad and I’m glad I was able to help stop it. This happened in 2018 In Newark, NJ.

    Drystan- CONFLICT
DRYSTAN CONFLICT- One TIME I HAVE WITNESSED CONFLICT IS WHEN I WAS IN SOUTH AFRICA, I WAS WATCHING ONE OF THE TRIBES WALK PAST EACH OTHER AND DID NOT TALK.SO I THINK THAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF CONFLICT BECAUSE IT EXACTLY WHAT CONFLICT IS. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT WAS IN A COUNTRY THAT MY DAD WAS BORN IN AND IT WAS SAD. LIKE I SAID THIS TOOK PLACE IN SOUTH AFRICA.

    DYLAN'S E.G. OF COMMUNITY
When I traveled to Bermuda on vacation and interacted with Bermudians and learned that there were a lot of differences between Americans and Bermudians - like the placement of their steering wheels, the side of the road they drive on as well as the foods, and architecture.

My grandparents are different cultures. My grandpa is African American and my grandma is white. They both grew up in different places. My grandpa was raised where there are more African Americans and Hispanics. They also have different ways of speaking. My grandma was raised in a place where there are more people like her. This shows how they lived with different backgrounds.

My sisters African American friend, while in college was in a class where they were discussing race in America. She had a conflict with a Caucasian student on how they disagreed about a racial topic. My sisters friend tells us that this happens frequently. I think it’s most likely because of the cultural difference. When I heard this I thought about things that may happen to me as an African American. This happened in October of 2019.

My lead role in a short film for ATT Hello Labs where I played Adeline, the only African American girl in a predominantly white boarding school called Wellington Kent. The film brings you through how two kids interact to learn one another's cultures, values and customs. It shows the ackward moments of each and how they learned to overcome their cultural differences.

My parents are different cultures, so sometimes they disagree on what food to eat. My mom is Puerto Rican, and would sometimes like traditional Spanish food, like rice and beans. My dad is African American, and would like more American soul food. This shows how they disagree on different foods because they have different cultures.
