Which of the eight items will decompose the most?
I beleive the apple will decopose 90%.

    Materials and Equipment
The things that we used to bury the items were,a sledge hammer, shovel, rebar stakes, caution tape, and wooden stakes.
  • Problem

    Problem
What are the decomposition rates of the different items?
  • Precedures

    Precedures
We buried the items March 23. We went outside, cut off a section, and buried all eight items. Each group got to bury the item they picked and we are going to leave them for about eight weeks.
  • Week 1 styrofoam

    Week 1 styrofoam
Styrofoam is mostly uneconoimical to recycle or otherwise process enviromentally unless quantities, and can be lethal to any bird or sea creature that swallows significant quantities. One way you can reuse styrofoam is instead of buying styrofoam use other options which are more biodegradable. You can also reuse styrofoam by putting the styrofaom in a trash bag and saving it to use when ever you need too. It is also toxic.

    Weather Data
The weather for the the upcming week is going to be sunny for the most part, but somewhere in between there it is going to get cloudy. The temp. is going to start out at 70 F and drop from there to the 60's and 50's through out the week.
  • Weather Data

    Weather Data
The weather for the upcoming week is going to get warmer throughtout the week, but starts out in the 40s and gets higher as the week comes, and is supposed to sunny throughout the week.
  • Week 2 Aluminum foil

    Week 2 Aluminum foil
Aluminum Foil is a paper- thin sheet of rolled aluminum that tears easy and can be used to wrap and store food.
Ways you can reuse aluminum foil is, you can wash it after you use it and keep reusing it how ever many times you want, and when you want to go get a new box of aluminum foil you can take the used foil and take it to the recyclers.
Researchers say that when you are recycling it, at the same time you are also reducing it too.
    It is 100% recyclable,

The weather for the upcoming week is going to be sunny for the most part,it starts out in the 70s and throughout the week it is going to drop between the 60s to the 20s. There is a possible chance of some rain on the weekend though.
  • Week 3 Sun Chips bag

    Week 3 Sun Chips bag
The new sunchips bag is a fully compostable bag by earth day the next year. Researchers say it will decompose in about 100 days under the right conditions. You can reuse it by using it multiple times for storing food and keeping things fresh. Researchers have also said it is good for the earth too.
  • Week 4 Regular Chips Bag

    Week 4 Regular Chips Bag
The regular sun chips bag isn't like the new one, it's not as loud. Here are some ways you can reduce, reuse, and recycle it.
Recycle- You can recycle it by putting it in your schools recycling ben, etc.
Reuseing it- When you recycle it after the people clean it and make sure it is done right, you can reuse it because they use it to more sun chips in it. The sun chips bag is a pretty good bag, and it is 100% compostable.
  • Week 5 Apple

    Week 5 Apple
Apples will spoil 10 times faster at room temp. I don't think you can reduce it, recycle it, or reuse it.
  • Week 6 Paper

    Week 6 Paper
If you want to know how to reduce papaer, whenever you print things off the computer use only as much as you need. When you recycle paper you can put it in the recycling bins at school, etc.
When you recycle paper you are actually going to reuse it.
  • Week 7 Cotton

    Week 7 Cotton
I don't think cotton can reaally decompose, but if so it would probably take maybe a little over 5 months.
  • Week 8 Orange

    Week 8 Orange
I don't think you can recycle oranges. I don't think you can reduce oranges or reuse them either. It will take about 7 weeks for the orange to start decomposing.
  • Paper Conclusion

    Paper Conclusion
I made an observation that the piece of paper would decompose 40%. It actually decomposed 2%. I thought it would actually decomopse more than that but i guess not.
  • Orange Conclusion

    Orange Conclusion
I made an observation that the orange would decompose 80%. It actually decomposed 90%. Thtat's just 10% more than what my observation was, I wasn't to far off.
  • Regular Chips Bag

    Regular Chips Bag
I made an observation that the regular sun chips bag would decompose 30%. It actually didn't decompose at all, and now I know plastic wont decompose.
  • Cotton Conclusion

    Cotton Conclusion
I made an observation that the cotton would decompose 0%. My observaton was right it diodn't decompose at all.
  • Styrofoam Conclusion

    Styrofoam Conclusion
I made an observation that the syrofoam would decompose 0%. It didn't decompose at all.
  • Sun Chips Bag Conclusion

    Sun Chips Bag Conclusion
I made an observation that the Sun Chips Bag would decompose 10%. It didn't decompose at all.
  • Apple Conclusion

    Apple Conclusion
I made an observation that the apple would decompose 80%. I think it deomposed more than I thought it would. After it was dug up and taken to the lab, we went to go make observations about each of the 8 items. I already knew it was gonna decompose a lot, but my observation was close.
  • Foil Conclusion

    Foil Conclusion
I made an observation that the peice of foil would decompose o% and i was rightg. The foil did not decompose at all. I think we all know that foil does not decompose, its not made to where it will decompose.
