Y2K mania
A big scare of computers setting their internal clocks (two-digits) back to '1900' once the new millenium came to light. Nothing catastrophic happened. Y2K was a real-life form of cyberpunk because it encapsulated the notion of 'high tech, low life' - technology letting us down.
